For mothers who had babies in summer (heat issue)?

I am by August 12 and I live in Los Angeles. It becomes very hot this time of year from July and ends perhaps early October. I am worried because my babies room and my room is upstairs. We have a old house and a price system air conditioning, but it was too expensive, how our house is built would have 2 separate systems and pay (double above and one below).
