In the UK: Can someone help me with my problem with the car?

I have a Renault Clio and occasionally I get a slight delay when accelerating. I could be the plugs and leads (the plugs needed changing) but this has not solved the problem. I wondered if it could be the air filter? Can anyone help? I do not want to go to a garage at this time of year and get ripped off by something that might need. Thanks in advance. no need to scream! please do not offended by me stating UK only, I just want help with the problem not an argument! thanks for the helpful answers. I'll start with the cheaper suggestions and go from there.

The delay of the acceleration is not plugs or wires. if there was a bug in either would get failing. Bunged up the air filter inhibit starting and ticks can cause more sickness, but not reduce its rate of acceleration in any appreciable amount until they had noticed bad at idle and increased fuel consumption. Possible things to look for are: friction clutch. This can be proved by a sudden hard acceleration in 3rd. Drive at a constant speed 30 and then press the pedal down hard and hear the engine accelerate quickly. Then see how long it takes for the velocity of circulation form. Should be nearly simultaneous. If there is a noticeable delay then the clutch started to slip. Gunk on the accelerator "block" (Renault can call somehow different.) That's the thing between the air filter and inlet manifold. They sometimes get a pasty substance lining the holes to block the air.
